Shrine of the Young
Young people are among the most abandoned, since they frequently find themselves on the margin of Church and society. Together with the youth, the shrine has created an environment where the young can become fully aware, be able to discern and enthusiastically share their talents, giftedness and response to God’s call that they may give life and joy to the church and society especially to the poor and the most abandoned.
John Maguire Youth Center
The shrine inaugurated the John Maguire Youth Center in 2016. The center's aim is to give young people visiting and volunteering at the shrine a “home away from home.”
Named in honor of Fr. John Maguire, an Australian Redemptorist known for his dedication to youth concerns and issues, the center offers a venue where young people, especially shrine volunteers, can hang out and hold meetings, rehearsals, gatherings, and similar important activities.
Youth volunteers of the shrine joyfully welcomed the inauguration of the youth center in the shrine. The youth center will now give them more chances to bond and deepen their friendship.
As one youth member said, “This is a dream come true for us. We did not have a common space before, so we only met wherever there was a place available.”
The youth center may not be that grand in terms of size or beauty but what is important is the shrine now has a place for the young people.
